Dolphin Magic

The beauty of creating art in miniature always thrills me especially after working on a large format Commission.. after many hours immersed in the patterns of the amazing Paint Horse "Our Incredible Story" (portrait pic coming soon..) I am back at the magnifying glass for a while!
I painted this magical secret cove after once again being moved to tears by the tragedy of the Dolphins when their trusting nature allows them to swim too close to Taiji, Japan.. I urge everyone to go to "The Oceanic Preservation Society" today!

Windspinner,

The oceans are a Universe apart,
spun iridescent blue ~
threads torn from sun and from rainbow
from cloud and sunrise hue.

Woven strong,and carried into view
by dolphin lullaby and dance
and island's treasure too~
enwrap us
sway us gently
make us new.

I have tried to express the truth of the connection and relationship between Mother Ocean and the sky: it's cloud and rainbow blessings, which are not always soft and gentle, but are sometimes 'torn from the heavens' and here spun into liquid blue.

Spirals recur in my paintings and drawings, as it seems to me this is how time "is".. why do I feel no different in the essence of me, than when I was 20, or 23, or 25, the ages of my children now.. To think of my life as a journey along a straight line is depressing at worst, and just simply doesn't make sense at best. On an energy spiral, I envision we can step across to an earlier part of the life~line, in dream, memory, imagination, discussion, truth. In any case, it's a fun way of drawing! These are some spirals and reflections on our journeys, most recent in my miniature art.

Cook Island Art.

Oceans remind me of the unbounded energy, the vast size, the power of our planet. I have always been a water~baby, Mum told me I would run to the shore as soon as I could walk! The smooth, even finish made possible using Acrylic paints, was realised last year when I joined the Studio Class of my friend, amazing artist Elena Parashko. This painting of Cook Island, off Fingal Head in Northern New South Wales, is one of my first efforts. Above right, at 100cm x 60cms, it took many hours, and this week I have had a go at re~ creating the island, this time at 10cm x 15cm and with Windspinner Dolphin leading me in.. I chose watercolour for this miniature.
